Tucked into a private setting, the Cairn House is destined to become a centuries-long landmark at Bright's Creek. Function-specific nooks, cozy private places and spacious rooms are surrounded by large windows and doors that open onto the lush forest setting. From the sweeping driveway bordered by forest plantings, to the outdoor living room that looks directly through the treetops to Piney Mountain, this home is designed to sit quietly in nature.
'Soul of the home'
Inspiration for the home comes from a work of art by William Martin Jean (read about Jean's Sabi Series). The designer has emulated the qualities of wabi-sabi throughout the home, replicating both the visual and spiritual elements of Jean's work.
'Cairn House'
In the Irish Celtic tradition, a 'cairn' - a manmade pile of stones - is often found on a mountaintop, marking an important place. The 'Cairn House' at Bright's Creek is marked at its entrance by a lighted pillar of stones collected from the area's Cane River. The Appalachian-style stacked river rock continues on the exterior of the home, then on into the great room where an entire wall of the rock provides a feeling of solidity and permanence. |
